I kid! sorry to excite. Right in front of the tree, that's the car's motor.

This was a cruel pun to make... Right in front of the tree is the Volvo's motor on a stand, looks like it's sitting on the decklid of the car. Sorry to disappoint.

The joke felt funny at the time... when I was looking at the full resolution picture on my computer and could clearly see the engine perched on the decklid

Your using film? Where'd you end up developing it.

But use some more rule of thirds! And dont be lazy, get down low for better angles, or up high.

Yeah, I got it developed at a local photo lab. With a membership, scans of a roll was $6.50. I'm mooching off my friend's membership right now but I'll get one before long. BTW do you shoot any film?

The Volvo and the second Yaris pictures gotta count for rule of thirds yeah?

Im taking another photo class next semester which is all film. So ill be posting stuff up when that happens. But im curious where id develop it outside of my school lab. Im in the process of aquiring a film camera. What do you use?

volvo was a direct center shot... sorry, no thirds there hahah.

The yaris is a stretch. They are in the right third, but you still split the frame. (even then if the subject was the blue one, hes still dead center. The handicap sign would be closer to a 1/3rd placement. I would have thrown them in the bottom right third. But depends on your background. Always look for whats behind your subjects. It can make it all the more interesting.

plus youre still at eye height at both of those shots. get low. (like that rap song from need for speed underground.... to the windowsssss to the walllssss) lol i stop.

Did you read the speedhunters guide on photo'ing cars?

Well if you don't have a local photo business, doesn't Walgreens, Costco, and those types of places do it? I feel like unless you live somewhere super rural, there should be a place that develops film.

I use a Pentax P30T, $25 flea market special.

I thought rule of thirds was something like making the subjects (or things that otherwise stand out) adhere to a 3x2 grid. So the 240 follows the centerline, and maybe those redwoods are along the righthand vertical line? Yeah maybe a stretch

Same with the Yaris/Camry being along the centerline, and the two signposts being along the vertical lines ...? .....? .......? idk

Yeah I realize cars are typically more flattering from lower down. The story with the Yarises is that the owners were standing right there and I didn't want to make a situation out of taking a picture. That's why they're eye-level and far away and generally shitty pictures... I know I could just ask them if I can take a picture of their cars lol

I missed the Speedhunters guide.

Ive only got a walmart so maybe ill try there. I have to see if such a photo store exhists in my area.. And not a bad find! And for a great price too, well done.

Ahhh, rule of thirds. You will definatly want to read up more about that. Its not the end all rule, but if you get in the habit of using it, you will find more of your shots will just feel and look better overall.

Dont be afraid of the owners. When i shoot peoples cars, they have always been friendly and are flattered that im taking pictures of em. You will get more comfortable in that area the more you do that. Remember, the best shots are not usually the easiest to take.

and here is the speedhunters guide below. Its a very good read. And it specifically helps when you want to shoot cars. And you can apply most principles beyond just cars too.

Also go just look at professional photojournalists and get an idea how they are framing their shots.
